Adopted June 14, 1777 (later to become Flag Day), Continental Congress resolved "that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field representing a new constellation." Since Congress didn't specify dimensions, proportions or size of the field or canton, an arrangement for the stars or even the shape of the flag, there were many variations in American flags until 1912.

"Flag thread is of a higher grade. The poles are of a flexible plastic; too flexible as they 'bowed and locked' in the shipping box. As a recipient, they appear to have been 'shoved' in the box the same width of the packaging container, which is how they were likely warped when received. A couple of tight rubber bands wrapped around each pole straightened the stems. I should have returned them, but accepted them as my project duration shrank."
