Established in 2024, this annual day of observance recognizes and raises awareness of those who are currently or have previously been held hostage or detained abroad. Made in the USA, this flag is constructed with heavyweight nylon and finished with a strong canvas heading and two brass grommets.

Designed by David Ewald in collaboration with families of Americans detained abroad, it includes a distinctive yellow and black design as well as two rows of tally marks extending across its center, indicating the passage of time for detainees.
