"Don't Give up the Ship" were the dying words of James Lawrence aboard the USS Chesapeake during the War of 1812. His last utterance would become a naval battle cry and inspire a flag. The Bonnie Blue flag was the unofficial flag of the Confederate states at the beginning of the Civil War. The "Come and Take It" flag was first used in 1778 in Georgia at Fort Morris during the American Revolution and during the Battle of Gonzales during the Texas Revolution.
