The Austro-Hungarian War Ensign and Jack (officially the "Kriegsflagge") was used from 1880 to 1915, but previously was used as the merchant ensign (Handelsflagge) until 1867. The Austro-Hungarian War Flag was used during World War II as well. It was flown by the German heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen that took the tradition of the Austro-Hungarian Navy by an order dated 12 June 1940.
